Help reduce your carbon footprint by recycling your organics.

Reduction of green house gases.

When food waste or any type of material that could be composted gets thrown into the garbage it ends up in a landfill.  As it decomposes slowly, without oxygen it creates methane gas. As a greenhouse gas, methane is 21 times more harmful than carbon dioxide.  Keeping this material out of a landfill is very beneficial to the
environment.

Financial Benefits

Composting rates are a lot less than garbage disposal rates. If a restaurant is using a 4 yard dumpster for garbage and can reduce that to a 2 yard dumpster
and add a 2 yard dumpster for food waste recycling, this should reduce the overall
disposal costs.  The money also stays in the local economy rather than going out of state to the landfill.

How to get started

 Residential

If you want to recycle food waste at home, you can either bring the material to us yourself or get a curbside collection tote from Waste Management. If you already have curbside collection of yard waste, then you can just add the food waste in with your yard waste.

 Commercial

If your restaurant or cafeteria is interested, follow these easy steps.

Call your garbage hauler for a food waste dumpster and to reduce the size of your garbage dumpster.

Set up food waste bins in your kitchen.

Line the bins with compostable bags.

Train your employees.

Post reminder signs.
